Book Review
The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on November 6, 2022
Liam’s dreams have encompassed him over time. Becoming more vivid with each passing wonder they turn real unexpectedly and now Lydia needs to understand what’s happened and why. There’s a world beyond the reality she once knew that offers delights she cannot resist. When she is given the reasons of how and why, it’s what comes next that gives Lydia everything she’s ever wanted.
The work overall is a lovely and passionate story of discovery with a bit of gender transformation and futa aspects. Interestingly, those aspects really don’t take over the story, they add to the flavour and give depth to the main character. It’s the story of the relationships that build, the revelations of the hidden world that Lydia finds herself in that are the core.
The erotica is passionate, there’s a lovely warmth to how the succubi of the story are in those moments. It doesn’t feel like sex for the sake of it and that worked really well. The heat simmers in these scenes and past the climax the love between the characters comes through really well.
The succubi of the story, Leena, Avah and Karina, are not at all stereotypical which I particularly enjoyed. Their personalities are unique, they have different views about themselves and the world around them. But their desire for Lydia makes them adorable as the story is told and their lives intertwine.
What’s more interesting to me is the bits and pieces of the universe this story is set in that aren’t really explored. They are mentioned, it’s the reason as for why things happened to Lydia as they did. But it’s really in passing, a tease to the reader and it’s one that I wish had really been explored in depth. It’s kind of a threat, if tangentially to the characters and that’s mainly why it’s not explored I think.
Still, that hint I think could have been used to make this a larger work, something more than this glimpse as it is. It feels like there’s a huge world to explore with these characters and that really should be something the author should think about. They do this in a lot of their works, putting hints of something more to add spice to the story, but don’t expand on them. Perhaps at some point they should look back on these stories and the worlds within. I think there’s a lot still to be said both by the characters and where they are.
Three and a half out of five pitchforks.
It’s a fun and cute story, the characters really are delightful. But there’s a lot of the background of the story universe that’s skimmed over and that’s a shame. I think this would make for an interesting series with all that’s offered storywise but isn’t told. That might be something for the author to think about.
