Have You Met My Succubus? is the first collection of fantasy short stories from the mystical world of Th’eia. Although similar to our own world of Gaia, within the realm of Th’eia magic is far more than an elusive, occasional shadow readily dismissed as imaginary, and the folk and creatures of our fables abound.
Have You Met My Succubus? presents nine short stories and a novella of vivid and imaginative tales of magic, mystery and adventure, each containing a surprising twist that will keep you guessing to the end. Most of the stories follow the adventures of Feuery, an auburn-haired, blue-eyed gnome wizardess in bad standing with the Wizards’ Guild. Not that she minds much: she is more than happy not to pay membership dues, and enjoys the complete freedom to get into whatever trouble or mischief takes her fancy from time to time.

A world of mystery, magic and discovery tells of those that live, quest, and in their own ways, come to love. Not everyone is as they first appear and in telling their stories, the truth is more than the story told. One always is learning in this world. About all around, the magic to be see, but most of all, the mysteries of the heart, mind and soul.
The story is richly told, reflecting the care and time spent by the author in setting out all that transpires within the pages. All of the stories matter, from beginning to end, and each of them can be found interwoven into the events and characters in other parts of the work. There are several overarching plots and characters in the work and it’s interesting to see them develop, change, and adapt to what happens around them and to them.
The succubus of this work, Rielar, is a wonderful example of this. She is clearing a succubus, freely admits to being so, and more. Her physical description is wonderful, but more so, her personality, how she cloaks herself, her intentions, is delicious because at times it isn’t clear what she wants, or intends to do. She’s a bit of a free soul in that and I liked how her character had purposed from the beginning and held to that.
There is a story in the work that features Rielar and in that story comes out who she is, why she has made some important choices, and what she desires. The search for this brings her to an encounter that is funny, odd and at times strained, but that develops her character and her story so very well. Every moment of this telling of that thread, the end result, and how much difference it makes, is one of the most wonderful stories about a Succubus that I have read this year.
This is a work of adventure, mystery and discovery and that holds throughout all of the works in the collection. The writing is excellent, there’s nothing that took me out of this universe, felt odd or out of place. There is a strong feeling of being in a fantasy world, with all of the trials and tribulations, but nothing is written for the sake of being so. There’s a point to everything said and done.
I wish that the story after Rielar made her choice was told more. There is more to be told about her life and leaving her story where it was I felt leaves too much untold. Her path isn’t going to be simple or easy, that much is clear, and seeing her deal with that, with those around her, I think is a story that needs to be told.
Highly recommended, I really would love to see a series of shorter stories come from this work focusing on the many wonderful characters that were touched on. Much promise in a world that has much to tell.

I simply adored this work, the telling of the stories, the characters, but most especially Rielar herself. Following her story through the work, seeing where her quest takes her, and the results is something that I love to see. She is a succubus, there is no doubt, but she is more than that. Really that is that sets this work apart. It is more than what you might expect. In that I was the most thrilled by.
