Plot Summary

Book Review

There are things one should not become involved in, no matter the temptation, promise or the seductiveness. But somethings cannot be resisted, taking one’s good sense first, and then the cost is already too high.
The work is an erotic mystery with a bit of a horror theme around the edges. Over the course of the story, things turn very dark, the main characer is ensnared by their curiosity, falling for whispers of promise which eventually turns into an erotic climax and the reveal of the true darkness that exists within the story.
The succubus of the work, who is never named, is shaded behind a human aspect to tease, tempt and capture the main character, their true form and purpose being held back, if hinted at, until the last few chapters. Sensual throughout, she is a temptress of hell with a single purpose which becomes very clear. I thought the domination worked well, there was hints of mind control and when her true form appears, she is a bit different in form, but her need and what she takes is dearly close to being stereotypical and I wish that hadn’t been. Her nature and domination in the story before was such a captivating read and it would have been I think more interesting for her to twist the knife she held in the main character to a different end than the one that was too expected really.

As captivating as the story was, as telling as each scene became, the work ends in a way that was telegraphed from the beginning and felt s delay on the knife’s edge of stereotypical. It’s a shame really that things ended that was, there could have been a twist in the story, a turn towards something different than just being so dearly dark.
