Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on February 3, 2019

Mike and Liz look for things that go bump in the night, and on Halloween they seek out the mystery in a haunted house before them. But the mystery is more deadly and seductive than they expected. If they aren’t careful, they might join the ghosts they seek forever.

The work is a mixture of adventure, mystery and erotica with a succubus appearing to tie the pieces of he puzzle together and provide the conflict within the story itself. The erotica is tempered, more a means to give a little spice to the story at the climax and bring the threat of the succubus herself more to the fore.

The focus overall is the mystery of the house, the effect it has on the main characters, and, when it comes to pass, the possession of Liz by the succubus Iliana and how she tempts and teases Mike towards doing her bidding in spite of the ghosts that try to help him.

Iliana is, according to the story, a typical succubus, which is true at least from her physical form. Beyond that she is evil with a purpose, if very dark as the pieces of the puzzle are sorted out. Not quite stereotypical, but so dearly close and that was a bit of a shame. It’s more so that there is really very little told about her in the story, and it felt like a bit was glossed over to get to the conclusion and the epilogue.

Three and a half out of five pitchforks.

Very much a story with a succubus as one of the characters rather than being a story about the succubus herself for the most part. That’s not to say it isn’t a fun and delightful work, for it is. I do wish that there had been more of Iliana in the story, perhaps telling her story from her perspective along the way. Sill, a lot of fun and a delightful read.
