Plot Summary

A paranormal escort service. That kind of thing can’t possibly exist, right? If you told me to imagine the sort of woman people would pay to have sex with, it wouldn’t be me. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate myself or anything, but I would have pictured someone like the models on the covers of magazines. Not an ex-farmgirl who loved pizza and mashed potatoes a bit too much to ever be thin and enjoyed cuddling up in my adult onesie with the unicorn horn hood watching anime….

But I’ve just learned that otherkin are real, and my mage boss insists that sometimes they need a little quality time with a convenient, willing human body. My first client turns out to be an incubus with secrets. Every paranormal fangirl’s dream job, right?

Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on January 11, 2022

Nerissa needed a job and she finds herself being a callgirl for the supernatural beings that exist in the shadows. But she isn’t a model, she isn’t glamorous either. But there’s something about her that makes her irresistible and desired. But all jobs start somewhere and her first encounter is with Eder, an incubus with secrets, flaws and needs. It’s a job, not love, but it will open both of their eyes.

The work is a short hot flash of erotica, but with a tone and characters that offer quite a lot. There’s a lot of questions about both Nerissa and Eder, where they came from, why things are as they are. It isn’t a romance, far from it, and they both have that realization within themselves as the story is told. It’s a transaction to fulfill a need, different for both, and it works well.

The real mystery, which isn’t gone into very much, is Eder himself. He’s not a stereotypical incubus both in his form and personality and I found that very attractive. The walls he’s built up are telling and while they come down a bit in the story, they don’t leave him. It’s a shame that there’s not really much background to explain why things are for him and I wish that had been told. But it’s not the point of the work and so it wasn’t.

Written well, the erotic scenes aren’t too far over the top. I enjoyed the story for the world building and sorting out who Nerissa and Eder are. I didn’t care at times for Nerissa’s monologue, it just seemed to go flat and disinterested at many points in the midst of the heat which didn’t quite work for me. Eder however is a character that I’d like to see more of, there’s far too much story not explored.

Three and a half out of five pitchforks.

I’d like to see a story involving a succubus and Nerissa, but not in the way you might expect. Perhaps giving Nerissa a new viewpoint of herself would add that bit of a change to her that would open her character, which really is needed beyond what there is.
