Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on August 17, 2021

Succubi and Incubi are pressed by their nature, it drives them towards something that they may never have. But in the journey, through the encounters and lives they lead, comes… possibilities.

The work can best be described as an anthology of interconnected stories that revolve around a family of succubi and incubi through the years. It’s wonderful in the characters, how they relate to each other, and where the stories take them. While the needs that press on each character have a bearing on them, it isn’t stereotypical in how that unfolds.

There’s a number of surprises along the way, some changes which over time being about new aspects of the characters that are unique and I think add a lot to the story. It’s not erotica per se, there are some intimate moments to be found. There are events which are somewhat horrific in the telling, but not over the top.

The stories link together well, there’s very good character development and over time that makes for some reveals that I didn’t expect, which was wonderful. The narrative is a bit odd at times, perhaps one more editing pass would have tightened up the storytelling and overcome the oddness. But nonetheless the collection is excellent in the ideas and characters brought out and that was delightful.

Three out of five pitchforks.

An interesting collection of short stories with an overall theme that transitions well between each group of characters. I’d have liked a bit more depth in the story, a little more character development than what happens. There’s a good series idea here, certainly the concept does point towards that. Perhaps the author will continue this world and see where that takes them.
