Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on January 2. 2018

Angela has something of a problem dropped into her life, and that problem’s name is Lilith. She’s insufferable, opinionated, to the point, irresistible and won’t take no for an answer. But she makes an amazing cup of coffee, can’t be ignored, and has no problem with putting all sorts of ideas into Angela’s mind. But that shouldn’t be a surprise as Lilith is a succubus after all.

The work is a wonderfully told exploration of a main character in search of themselves and a succubus who finds herself attracted to someone she didn’t expect to be. It’s fun, thoughtful, erotic, and with all of that comes the development of the story and characters in a way that is one of the most endearing works about succubi that I have read.

The erotica is very much a slow burn, the attraction between Angela and Lilith takes time to develop. There’s a tenderness to that attraction which gives both characters time to find themselves and each other. The heat in the erotic moments between them makes sense and through that passion comes a transformation in Angela that works really well to build the story on. Much of the heat comes from the not-quote reconciled attraction which takes a while to be sorted out between them. But along the way the little vignettes op the door to something more. There is a short futa encounter, as well as another dream sequence that delve into Angela’s persona that are very revealing about both characters.

Lilith, the succubus of the series, is the furtherest thing from being stereotypical. Her character appeals in many ways, from her attempts at helping Angela, through exploration of both of their needs. The amusement she displays, the need she has to find a way for Angela to be as attached to her as Lilith is to her, is very telling. Perhaps it’s most accurate to say she reminds me of someone. A bemused someone perhaps and that’s what gives me the most joy from this tale.

Wonderfully written, the story is very much a page turner and every page just brought a smile and the need to see what happened next. While there is some erotica, it’s not the point of the story, the erotica is there to give meaning to the passions between the characters and offer a path for the story to take towards an ending that works perfectly for them both.

Five out of five pitchforks.

I just adored Lilith’s personality and how she and Angela grew over the course of the story. Most of all, the fun and teasing delighted me the most, as those that know me will understand why. It’s very much a story in which the character relationships drive everything else, including the erotica and it worked exceptionally well. Very much recommended for the amazing piece of writing it is.
