Plot Summary

Penelope (Penn) is in love with a man she has denied herself for two years, not just because they are baseball teammates and good friends. Penn is a succubus, a demon creature sustained by sex, and the men she sleeps with must be mind-wiped after she feeds. Breaking the only law of her kind means death for the both the succubus and her man. When Penn succumbs in a weak moment, she has only hours left before she will be forever erased from Joe’s memory or destroyed.

Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on July 10, 2016

Penelope, better known as Penn to her friends, loves two things more than anything else. One is baseball, the other is her dear friend on the baseball team. But being a succubus means she can’t touch him, as much as she loves him. But in a moment of need comes an admission of love and that love, as much as Penn wants it to be, can’t possibly be eternal.

I have to admit that I wasn’t quite sure how baseball and Penn being a succubus was going to work out. But as the story progresses, it’s less about the baseball and more about the game that Penn has been playing all of her life as a succubus.

As the story unfolds, Penn finds herself placed in a position she has been trying to avoid, needing to avoid. The meaning for that makes a lot of sense, the desire within Penn is palatable. When the moment comes, and she cannot help herself, the moment is a bit awkward, but there is love and passion within it.

From that comes a cute little scene, but it’s the resolution of the aftermath, in the telling of the truth coming out and Penn coming to terms with herself and her love. It’s that part of the story that I felt has the most joy and I adored that.

The erotica is lovely and hot, a pair of delicious hot flashes with the latter encounter being the better of the two in its romance, love and joy. It’s not silly or strange, it’s simply two souls in love and that’s the best erotica of all.

The ending is a bit unclear, I’m unsure if Penn’s outcome is as I think it is, that she remains as she was, but with an important change, two of them really. I know that’s vague, but it’s a core point in the ending and I don’t want to reveal it. I would have liked a little more clarity on that point, perhaps a bit more of what comes next for all of the characters.

A lovely story with quite a lot of joy, mirth and passion. It leaves me wanting at the end, needing to know a few little things, but overall I dearly enjoyed this work. Well worth a read and your time.

Four and a half out of five pitchforks.

A joy by far. A wonderful story with power and passion, love and need. Characters that tells their story and in doing so, offer so much. Really one of the most lovely stories Lila has written and one of my favourites.

Always hoping for something more, wishing the author the best always…
