Plot Summary

Who knew saving the world would just be the start of our problems?

We're known all over the world. Everyone knows the flirtatious ghost nun Janine, the spunky gothic witch Katy, the adorable lesbian werewolf Danika and her perky human lover Niki, the unbearably sexy vampire Penny, and of course Joseph, the newly anointed horseman Death. They're now household names for stopping a power hungry jinn from taking over the country. I'm thankful that Joseph "Grim" Reaper used some of that notoriety to persuade prosecutors that I was working as some sort of double agent and that I helped save the day.

Yeah, like I could ever be a spy, but I can't complain because freedom sure beats rotting in a Supermax prison for the rest of my life. Now I'm known as a hero just like the rest of the them. It's not true. I betrayed them. I had my reasons, and I'm not sure that I wouldn't have done the same exact thing if I had to. When I run into fans, they say I'm brave, but I'm a chicken through and through.

The truth is I'm lucky enough to have some really great friends that overlooked my betrayal, my cowardice, and even understood my motivations for why did what I did. They're the heroes. I'm just a sidekick.

So together we did what any newly famous group of people would do. We cashed in on our fifteen minutes of fame. We formed the Midnight Squad, and started licensing our name. Well I did all that. None of them are exactly business minded. So I formed the company, and made them all my partners. Honestly, it doesn't get much better than this. Now if I could just get a date.

The world didn't even know about vampires, werewolves, ghosts, witches or any of that stuff until we showed up out of nowhere. All that stuff was just legends, campfire stories, and movies. The problem is that there was a very good reason no one knew about vampires and all the creepy crawlies before now. Throughout history there has been an organization called The Darkness trying to keep the knowledge about all the things that go bump in the night a secret from humanity. They have a long history of destroying any creatures that try to step out into the public eye. So our success and newfound fame is really just a flashing neon sign that practically begs for them to come kill us. Can I give back the money, the fame, and just go back to my very safe and secure jail cell? The Darkness is coming. They don't leave survivors...they leave examples.
