Plot Summary
After nine months of studying with La Bruja, a witch from the Sixth Realm, Mona has to return home to her human family. She worries that her mentor is growing weak and would rather stay by her side. Still, Mona must obey the old crone.
Once back home, it promises to be a dreadful summer with her ever-selfish sister, Christi, and a new third grade teacher, Mr. Moreno, a cruel man hell-bent on ruining Mona’s life.
Mona is also bullied for being weird and an outsider. In a fit of rage, she accidentally opens a portal that lets a demon into the earthen plane. The murderous creature soon turns to her family and is especially attracted to her older sister. Even though Christi is a constant pain, Mona must protect her at all costs.
Will Mona defeat the creature despite her lack of experience? Will she have to bend the laws of magic, thereby making her what her family fears: an evil witch?
