Plot Summary
When swords and sorcery are not enough...
Jebediah Skayne has it all, a horse, a gun, and a way with the ladies. But since his recruitment into the Order of Nightmares Men after the bloody events of his childhood, he’s also a man sworn to track down and kill the demons crossing the mountains, all that lies between the lands of Malkuth and the nightmare realm on the other side. When two colleagues fail to return from their investigation into the latest incursion, the Order send Jebediah to bring down the demon responsible for their murders.
The trail leads him to the fishing town of Portis, where thieves and cutthroats go about their business with impunity under the approving eye of the local sheriff. Baffled by the demon’s ability to conceal itself, Jebediah indulges in the few pleasures Portis has to offer, but soon finds himself embroiled in more danger than he could have imagined. Not only do the locals come to resent his presence, but the demon strikes again, its male victims violated and brutally slain.
Little by little, as he follows the trail of clues, Jebediah comes to realize the demon is playing with him, drawing him into a showdown he may not have the means to survive.
