Plot Summary
Lightning crackled through the night sky, illuminating a feminine figure perched in a window of the Hospital Merci. Darkness quickly overtook the lights again and left only the dark shadow of a woman. Dark eyes studied the room in silence, her heart beating fast.
Mina was a demon of lust. That is, she embodied everything sexual and then some, but also fed off of the sexual energy in a process that was often fatal. Often she considered herself a succubus, but that description did not adequately describe what she was. Those demons existed, but for her, she wasn't hindered by their curse of only feeling one emotion or sin; Lust.
This demoness, as she referred to herself often, was able to consider the broad spectrum of emotions that humans did. She had no explanation for it, but that wasn’t from a lack of investigating. Lightning flashed revealing her once again from the shadows.
Book Review
The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on July 7, 2024
Sometimes the winds of chaos and fate reveal a wild card, a creature bent on their purpose above all else. They plot and fight for what they need and if, along the way, the corruption of souls happens to create more chaos, that’s just temptation being what it is.
The work is a deeply involved and complicated story with an interesting mythos to be explored. While there are some horror aspects mixed with erotica, they aren’t really over the top in how that unfolds. The characters are as complex as the story, and it’s in the peeling away of the layers towards the truth of them that things become fascinating.
While Mina, the main character is a succubus, and tends towards being just that side of evil, it’s not evil for the sake of being so. She has a purpose in the story, a path to walk. That in itself is well done and offers a lot of character development for her. There are others who are, or are made to be, incubi and succubi who have more evil aspects, perhaps a little too much so, but there’ still something different and interesting about them.
Over the course of the story, there are multiple transformations, taking of souls, creation of pets and so on which have some very good heat at points. It’s vey much focused on this being a work of succubus horror erotica and doesn’t stray far from that.
The work ends in a place that suggests there will be something further and that would be interesting. That said, if such a thing does happen, there needs to be some focus made. There’s too many threads and characters so far and it takes away from the overall story telling. That’s not to say the mythos isn’t interesting or the characters aren’t unique. It’s more that it feels like there’s parts of the story that have been dropped to the side and need to be picked up.
Four out of five pitchforks.
The succubi and incubi characters are a bit stereotypically evil, but there’s enough beyond that which the story can develop them. That’s very true with Mina and a few of the other demons, and given the story so far, that’s an aspect of things which offers a lot of possibilities. Assuming that things don’t turn evil for the sake of it, there’s quite a lot to look forwards to.
