Plot Summary
All Isobel wanted out of life was a loving husband and children. Instead, she was dealt with a cheating fiancé who only ever cared about himself. When she comes home and finds him in bed with a woman from work, she drops him like the piece of trash that he is.
Feeling low, her friend talked her into calling an exclusive club. One that promised the night of her life with a fictional boyfriend straight out of a paranormal romance.
Little did she know the man she ordered had a few tricks up his sleeve, and at the end of his tail…
Book Review

Isobel got rid of her cheating boyfriend, but can’t quite manage to move on. A suggestion for a special date brings her to encounter Jared who claims to be an incubus. But that’s impossible of course, at least it would be right until his horns and tail appear and she discovers how talented he really is.
The work is the telling of a seduction, which is wonderfully done, which turns towards the deeper story of two soulmates finding each other. It’s quite funny at times, though there are a few serious moments as well which turn the story on its head once or twice. The undertone overall has that aspect of humour, which honestly needed to be there to make the story hald together.
It is at times a bit lost, a reflection of Isobel, the main character and her coming to terms with what she’s been through and what Jarod, the incubus of the work, offers. It’s a bit rushed in getting to the climax, to reveal a surprise, and come to an ending which works for the characters and still has that sparkle of delight.
With that said, Jared was a bit too stereotypical for my liking overall. There was just something about him at one point which felt so dearly wrong and if, as the story offers, he and Isobel are soulmates, then it didn’t really need to be there. At the same time, there’s an air of smugness that took his character from being so very attractive and seductive towards being bland and, honestly, rather sad. That did get turned around to an extent by the close of the work, but I just didn’t like how it was presented and the tone.
Three and a half out of five pitchforks.
As much as I enjoyed the storytelling and the characters, it’s that one moment in the story and how it reflected on Jared that really bothers me. With that said, if I set that aside and just ignore it completely, things are just that much more delightful and I wonder if it really needed to be there in the first place.
