Book Review
The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on October 13, 2024
For Lilin, her eternity is moments of pleasure in the midst of unending emptiness. But she can’t escape thinking about Daniel and what she feels for him. A choice made brings what her soul craves, but something else awaits.
The work is a very short hot flash piece of succubus erotica with captivating characters, raw emotions and a telling story. It’s really well written, there’s a lot to love and how things play out was amazing. It’s very much a reflective piece, seen from Lilin’s thoughts and she bares her soul which is so very telling.
Lilin is a succubus, but it’s important to note that she reflects on never having killed and that made me adore her even more. The struggle within herself, the need that never ends, the desire to have something more regardless of the cost. It all comes together to create what is honestly a very tragic character.
The ebb and flow works well to build a mystery between the characters and when Lilin makes her choice, it sets into motion the ecstasy of her wish and the passions within it. As the story is mainly from her perspective, the truth about Daniel isn’t revealed until the final page and that is shattering.
With all of the hope and passion that comes in the story, that last page just ripped away so much that had been created and it’s such a terrible shame that it was. Not every story has to end happily, but I prefer that happens and honestly it could have. But it doesn’t, the story ends in a way that left me wanting and so dearly sad for both of the characters.
There is a larger work here, though that likely will never happen. I honestly wish the author had taken this story and turned it into a deeper and stronger work to stand on its own. If for no other reason than to tell of what happened next, and if, somehow, the sadness of the ending was a precursor to something with light and joy to be found for both characters.
Three and a half out of five pitchforks.
The succubus story is far too short and I wish that it had been explored further. More so that it might have progressed into something better than how it ended.
For the collection as a whole, three out of five pitchforks.
The characters are interesting as are the stories themselves. Both of the longer works have a certain flavour and heat which were very well done. The melancholy throughout sets a tone which took a bit away in how much I enjoyed the collection, which is a shame. Still a really well done series of works and worth a read.
