Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on August 23, 2015

Julian has want of nothing in his life. As such he is arrogant, self-centred, and the sort of person that expects to always get his way. Ignoring good advice, he finds himself in the arms of two seductive succubi named Honey and Cream. They promise he will have an experience unlike any other.

I’ve always believed that M.E.’s strength is in writing longer, more involved stories which have the most interesting characters appearing in them. The succubus Nicole, for example, ever so much so. There’s just something about how much personality is created, how much story is within them, that I just find to be amazing. In this work that is very clear in many ways.

The succubi, Honey and Cream, are wonderfully seductive, having a lovely undercurrent of controlling the entire encounter even as Julian assumes that all is in his control. There’s a neat little touch of subtle mind control, some misdirection, even a bit of sheer sexual power that the pair of succubi use that I just adored.

The work tends to be a little more “adult” in nature compared with the author’s other works, but that doesn’t overcome the story, the characters or anything else. The heat simmers throughout the story, telling how succubi in this universe are “Mistresses of Sex” and I really think that came out well.

The main character, Julian, is someone that you really cannot like much from the beginning, being a bit of an ass from the beginning to the end of the story. As such, knowing the author’s tendencies in writing, I was wondering how that was going to play out as the story went on. There’s a certain satisfaction in seeing Julian fall under the control of the succubi, how they both play with him, and with each other, and while I expected the ending, how that came about, and the reason for it, was quite a surprise and I liked that a lot.

Getting back to the story itself, there is a lot of work building, some of which is seen from Julian’s perspective, but also there are hints about where the succubi, and other beings in this universe, came from. I found that Julian’s memories were a bit bland at times, almost as if the events were nothing special, but I did like how the succubi made their tale very seductive in how it was told.

The erotica has a good bit of mind control, some lovely seduction, the heat in telling of the succubi having their fun with Julian comes out quite well and as this takes quite a long time to develop fully, I was enchanted by how the author managed to keep the heat in play throughout.

Well written as always, amazing succubi, and a setting that I found just fit perfectly for the characters involved. I don’t feel that one must read all of the other works in the series in order to get full enjoyment of this work and that is a plus as well.

My one nitpick, and it is a minor one, is that I would have liked to have a slightly longer ending, focusing more on Honey and Cream than what was developed. I feel like I wanted to know a few more secrets about them that weren’t really touched on and the Madam of the house I think, while telling some, could have revealed a little more.

As always, a wonderful hot read about the succubi and, as always, enjoyed from beginning to end.

Four and a half out of five pitchforks.

A delicious story of succubi seduction and what happens to someone that does not heed when they are warned of the dangers they are.
