Plot Summary

Overworked and under-appreciated, I was on the verge of burnout. But I never expected three handsome demons to add even more fire to my life. If I had to describe working at Paulsen law firm, I’d ask you to picture a soulless hellhole, where everyone scrambled to the top, trampling the bodies beneath them. And I was stuck right at the bottom of the body pile.

Looking after myself had never been a priority. I just didn't have the time. But by chance, or dumb luck, I received a visit from three angels. Well, no, actually, not angels. Incubus. Tall, muscular, sexy Incubi, intent on teaching me a thing or two about self care. Thing is, I don't remember ever signing a contract... do you think I should tell them it was a mistake?

Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on February 12, 2023

Izumi is really running herself ragged at the office. Always on the go, never a moment for herself, she’s exhausted and really needs some time for herself. But there’s something else going on, she’s hearing voices and they are playing on her desires. Is it all a dream or is it something more and do they all want more from her?

The work is an interesting mixture of humor and erotica with a hint of a mystery around the edges that really isn’t explored too deeply. While the humor aspects are really well done, the erotica is a bit too over the top edging towards being adult movie theming. That’s not to say the story isn’t interesting or unique, for it is. It’s more than there’s a lot of things that aren’t explored that could have added a lot to this work overall.

One of the largest is the three incubi, Bren, Maz and Aran. Three well defined characters, all very much incubi in their natures and very focused on having their way with Izumi. They aren’t exactly evil, save for the things they do with Izumi’s wishes of course. Something between tricksters and devils might be the best way to describe their characters.

Beyond the incubi themselves, the explanation as to why they appeared is just too funny for words and very much feels like a hentai story as a result from that alone. Similarly, the story itself has a tone of being a quirkly hentai story and that works overall to a point. Where things lose their way is how the story jumps from one moment to the next and there’s really not enough development of the story or the characters themselves as a result. It’s here that the work loses a lot overall and that’s a shame. Exploring the nature of the incubi is something that I would have enjoyed, especially more of an explanation of how, exactly, Izumi summoned them and how their view of that comes to pass.

Three and a half out of five pitchforks.

It’s a bit over the top erotica-wise, and the story could have used more exploration of the incubi themselves than happened. There are some really cute and funny moments, but I feel like there’s something missing to make the overall work a lot better than it turned out to be.
