Book Review
The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on October 29, 2023
There are stories told about other worlds, sone of which might even be true. One such story draws three not quite so innocent souls into the clutches of a gathering of succubi who have one thing on their minds. Perhaps if they are very lucky, the three might survive the eleven succubi in need of something from them all.
The work overall is a series of short hot flashes of succubi having their way with the main character and his friends wrapped around a mystery to unfold. It’s very fast paced, there’s little in the way of character exploration or development. The focus is on the erotica and how different and delightful the succubi are.
There are eleven succubi in the work, though only Veltra, Lappa, Pampanne, Momo, Eroculupyga and Yuemuma are named. While they have the physical stereotypical forms of various fantasies, they are all very much succubi, having wings, horns and tails. Each has a strong personality and their own needs and desires which fit well into the erotica that each has within the work. The singular theme that seems to be with then all is frustration at how long it’s been since they had their way with a mortal and that has a lot of moments to laugh over as they are revealed.
The erotica itself is a bit lacking in heat, reading a little teenage adult movie much of the time. Much of that comes from the personalities of the main characters which are all a bit immature and it’s a bit of a shame they are. In comparison the succubi are far more interesting by far and I wondered about flipping the story around to see things from the succubi point of view might have read better and had more heat.
Overall, this is something of a rather frantic story in how the story is told and the speed at which things happen. I’d have liked more about the succubi to be explored, there are, after all, eleven of them. A bit silly, a little humorous and it’s fun in a unique way.
The work could use another editing pass to flesh out the main characters more. Similarly, the narration and speed of events might be better if slowed down a little bit. With all that, it was difficult to really like the main characters, which is a shame. The succubi however were far more than I expected them to be, considering the story before they appear. It would have been delightful for them to have more to do than just have their way with the three entering their domain.
Three out of five pitchforks.
I’d like to see a part two, if for no other reason than for the succubi to return and have something more of an adventure. They are all really interesting and that was, and is, promising here.
