Plot Summary

A year after being thrown off the force, Carter McBride is struggling as a private investigator. With few clients and no new leads to the Lords of Baal, he's becoming more and more frustrated with life.

So too, it seems, is the rest of the city as another spate of riots break out, this time focused in East L.A. Carter is sure the Lords of Baal have a hand in this somehow and when he sees Father Constantine in the middle of it he rushes to get to his friend's aid.

In doing so, he brushes off a new client, Isabella Valdez, who is sure her cousin is in trouble. Her boyfriend is involved in a gang and there's every chance her cousin is a corrupt cop. As far as Carter is concerned they can handle their problems themselves. But soon it becomes clear that there's more to this case than meets the eye, and Carter finds himself helping the young woman.

This path leads him to understand how good people can make the right decisions when it matters, and to a long-buried secret in an ancient chapel. Finally Carter will have some answers about the overarching plan of the Lords of Baal. Whether he can stop them or not is another matter entirely.
