Plot Summary

Viewed from a distance, the shining city of Goldhaven looks like a paradise sprung out of a wasteland. For thousands of high elves born to the wrong families, however, it is little more than a gilded cage suspended in limbo. One such elf, a shut-in inheritor of a doomed calling, is handed a fateful opportunity to break free.

Signed in Red and White follows the story of Shiro, a man who will do anything to rescue his family from their fate, as he descends into the depths of hell to make a deal with the devil. He discovers that hell isn't quite as he expects it to be - and the devil that he meets with has problems of her own.

Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on April 24, 2022

Shiro has but one goal before him and making a deal with the devil could be his only hope. But not all devils are evil, at least not exactly, and sometimes the deal you make isn’t the worst thing that could happen.

The work is a fantasy adventure that’s told really well. The characters are fully realized, there’s drive and desire to each that makes the story have a lot more depth than might be expected. The erotica has lovely heat, the moments are well told and beyond that there’s a good sense of emotion that makes the scenes stand out well.

Lucy, the succubus of the work, is a wonderful character. She’s smart, direct, and most of all isn’t at all stereotypical. Overall she’s one of the most unique succubi characters that I have found in some time. Her voice in the dialogue is quite clear, something between dominant and a bit needy that I think worked well. But really it’s how she connects with the other characters, how her hold over them works that was the most fun.

Well written as I’ve noted, there’s nothing that really takes one out of the story. A couple of the scenes gave me pause, mainly in not being sure that the character in question would do what they did. I’d have liked perhaps more focus on Lucy’s past than there is. That’s something which could bring in more story, but also more depth to her.

Four out of five pitchforks.

I liked the complexity of the story and the characters. The heat was well told and the fun moments along the way were delightful. Lucy has a lot more to tell about herself, about those around her and that’s really interesting. Hopefully there will be more tales to be told.
