Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on October 31, 2017

The road to hell is paved with good intentions, or so Logan has been told. Still a favour asked is one he will do for family. But not all is as it seems and when something unexplainable calls, there is little choice left to him.

The work overall tells of a mystery needing to be unraveled and what doing so does to Logan and those around him. There’s a bit of an X-files feel to things at times, which does add a lot to the storytelling. It is complicated and one must remain in the story in order to sort through what goes on. There’s not a lot in the way of erotica, nor is there really that much in the way of succubi themes as well.

Constance, the being in the story who is at one point described as a kind of succubus isn’t that simple a character to define. She’s more than that, and seeing the secrets be revealed to Logan as the story is told gives a lot of depth to her character. There are some aspects of her being that work as a succubus, but she’s not a stereotypical one by far.

The work is written well, the characters are complex and overall the story held my attention. The ending is a bit open, perhaps a follow on story would come from this, but even a time slip into the future to show what the result of Logan’s actions came to might have been better than the ending there is.

Three out of five pitchforks.

The work isn’t really that much of a succubus story. That said, Constance is quite unique and the overall story has a lot going for it. It’s a bit X-files from time to time, perhaps a bit more time delving into things from Constance’s perspective would have added something. Still the mystery remains and it’s a unique one.
