Plot Summary

Veronica loves one thing more than anything in the world: God. A close second is the pastor at her church, Father Ogilvy, who always gives the most intriguing sermons. Veronica lives for those amazing sermons, so she’s sad when Father Ogilvy announces his retirement.

The day of his retirement turns from sad to horrifying when Veronica ventures down to the church basement to retrieve some totes for a charity event, only to meet a curvy succubus who lives in the ancient space.

The succubus is going on vacation for a week and needs someone to take over the job until she’s back. And having not been on vacation for nearly a century, she’s refusing to take no for an answer.

How bad can it be?

For one week, armed with superhuman succubus powers, Veronica will have to facilitate deals with desperate men, and punish those who break their contracts.

Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on August 29, 2023

Veronica finds herself in a bit of a pickle. She’s a good religious girl who wants to be good and help others. But finding a succubus lurking in the basement of her church is a surprise. More so when the succubus “requests” Veronica take over for a week while she takes a vacation. As for Veronica, it will be a week of discovering the secrets around her, the hidden darkness she’s never realized was there and, possibly, discover something about herself that will change her too.

The work is, overall, something of a coming of age story with a very strong succubus theme mixed in. It’s quirky, funny and there’s a lot of storylines and character threads which combine into a very unexpectedly captivating story. It’s more about Veronica and what she learns about herself than it is about the balance of the work. There are moments of light erotica, a gender transformation occurs, there’s even a little bit of a futa theme as well.

With all of that said, and the focus on Veronica becoming a succubus and how she deals with that reality, it would have been very easy for this story to go off the rails and become something very much over the top. But this doesn’t happen, which is a delight. The reveals about those around Veronica, the lessons she learns, and teaches both herself and others, are so deeply engrossing.

Veronica becomes a delightful succubus, being true to herself and her beliefs while still having to deal with the succubus powers she’s been giving. It’s a lot of fun to watch her stumble around at the beginning and then, as the story processes, kind of mature into her role as a succubus. She’s not evil by any means, and she isn’t corrupted by what she has become. It’s more that the succubus that has done this to Veronica did so for herself, but I think, also saw in Veronica a soul that needed to understand more than she did.

As for the succubus herself, her personality is fun and while she is a succubus, she’s not really seen as being evil. A tease yes, a bit of a seductress without question. Given how little she’s actually in the story, she leaves a real impact on thing beyond what she “gifts” Veronica with. I do wish that there would have been more of her, perhaps calling Veronica while she was on vacation, and that might have been both hilarious and emotional as well.

If there is a single thing that was missing for me, it’s that the succubus never revealed her name. That’s a minor thing I will admit, but with what we saw of her character that would have added a bit more to her.

Four out of five pitchforks.

The work ends on a note which, I hope, might lead towards another story about Veronica and her succubus friend. I think it would be amusing if Veronica found herself being worth of note to this universe’s version of a succubus queen and what that might take Veronica’s story. Still, a lot of fun wrapped in a character and a story that I just adored.
