Plot Summary

Sinners and saints must be equally vigilant...

"On June 6th, 2006, three friends entered a pact with a succubus. Musical fame and fortune would be there's provided the women could fulfill the demon’s need for sexual energy with willing spirit spouses. Both parties agreed, and Suck-U-Bus was born."

That’s what the website claimed. But it was just a gimmick to sell tickets. Or so Lisa Hummer thought. After her brother gets a backstage bus-pass, she isn’t so sure. A strange woman warns them the succubus has marked Danny for more than sex, and it isn’t long before Danny goes missing. Following the clues, Lisa uncovers a trail of chaos wherever the band plays. She can’t be certain if there is a nefarious plot or if it’s simply a bizarre series of coincidences. Is the succubus real or is it all in her head?

Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on October 13, 2023

Something’s happened to Lisa’s brother, and she needs to find him. But in the search, she discovers that what she thought were stories are real. What’s more frightening is that there are demons and those that serve them.

The work mainly reads like a teenage horror movie with a vast variety of characters that hide their needs and actions from prying eyes. When Lisa, the main character, starts to go places she shouldn’t the story turns abruptly into more of a focus on erotic horror.

While some of that has a certain seductive nature to it, for the most part the work unfolds in a very over the top way that I found to be difficult to get through or, to be honest, care all that much about the characters themselves. There’s a lot of jump-scares and other similar scenes that add tension overall, but otherwise didn’t pique my interest.

The succubus of the work, Eisheth, for the most part is on the fringes of what happens. They are very much stereotypically evil and extremely two-dimensional as a character. There’s no seductive aspects, no nuances which makes them so dearly disappointing.

Overall, the work really didn’t appeal to me and that’s mainly because I don’t enjoy stories about horror as their focus. This isn’t really a story about succubi, it’s a horror story with a nod towards the existence of a succubus in the story.

Three pitchforks out of five.

The work ends in a rather expected way, considering the feel of the story and how it’s written very much as a teenager slasher-horror story. For those that enjoy that theme it’s interesting, but I could find my way to caring about the characters very much.
