Plot Summary
They disappeared, and her power is rising. Noa is enjoying one last summer in her beachside hometown before leaving for college when a series of strange occurrences forces her to question everything she thinks she knows about herself, her family, and her future.
When her best friend instantly recovers from a near-fatal accident, the long-cold investigation into her family's disappearance is reopened, and a mysteriously alluring new family comes to town, Noa's surging power threatens to consume her. When a captivating stranger begins pursuing Noa, she wonders if his feelings are real – or stem from something potentially more dangerous. As Noa struggles to untangle the increasingly strange occurrences around her and control her rising power, she realizes that her safety – and the safety of those she loves – may be in more danger than she ever imagined.
Secrets don't stay submerged forever.
Book Review
The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on February 23, 2020
The past is never really forgotten and the present is always nipping at your heels. For Noa, the past haunts her, a family lost forever. But things are changing, her true nature is coming to the fore, and the past might not want to be forgotten anymore.
The work is a mystery with a bit of romance around the edges and quite a lot of character development overall. It’s not erotica by any means, nor is it meant to be. The focus is on Noa trying to put the pieces of her past together and see where that takes her, and the barriers which are thrown in her way. There are a lot of plot threads, many characters, and at times it’s a bit confusing as things fall apart and come together again.
It’s a story about a character who has aspects of being a succubus, but isn’t really about that part of themselves. It’s the mystery that matters here most really. As for the succubus and incubus aspects, they are more a bit of flavour to play off everything else overall. It would have been nice to know more about that, but it didn’t really get explored and I can understand why with all of the threads and confusing moments for the characters along the way.
Three out of five pitchforks.
As this work was to be the beginning of a series, the ending leaves a lot of threads open to be explored. It’s a shame that this never happened, that the mysteries weren’t uncovered and the truths reveled. A complicated story with a lot of promise that would have been interesting to watch unfold.
