Book Review

A past relationship doesn’t always have to get in the way of living one’s life. An encounter with an incubus however can alter one’s thoughts and, perhaps, reveal what happened in the past meant more than was said.
The work is a very short, what I call a pamphlet, story in which an incubus is encountered and in doing so a past relationship is explored and explained before the three characters become entangled in the incubus’ powers.
While it is a short story, it tends to drift a bit, trying to find a path to the erotica, and at points seems confused. Once into the erotica, it’s a bit over the top, the heat feels adult movie in tone and passions.
Griffin, the incubus of the work, is something of a tease with a bit of seduction around the edges to make him more attractive. There is a fair bit of mind control at points which overall works to bring about the erotica in the story. But for the most part he is a creature of sex overall. It works in the setting, but there is a suspension of belief at one point which was very difficult to deal with and I think that could have been done better.
With that said, Griffin's personality at times is, at best, rather cold and indifferent. This carried to the other characters as well and the attraction seemed too forced to have the heat the story needed.
Two and a half out of five pitchforks.
It’s a bit too adult movie for my taste, the story doesn’t seem to focus on Griffin actually being an incubus, save fleetingly so. That’s a shame as a bit more exploration of his nature I think would have make this a lot better a story than just being about the three characters being entangled together.
