Plot Summary

These two were a walking relapse, ready to happen. Garrin Torres will never be Guild Master of his local Taurus Hall. They can send however many politely worded nomination letters they want. He has a piercing parlor to run and a quiet, comfortable life that took him years to build to his satisfaction. Any further disruptions can see themselves right out the door because he is Not. Having. It. And when—wait. He said, “Out the door.” Out. Who are these people coming in now? She’s pretty hot, but her partner is clearly angling for a five-finger discount. Does today look like Garrin’s first day to Goth Bonnie and Clyde, here? He said, “No disruptions.” Are the planets not listening?? God, these two smell good.

Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on December 1, 2023

Garrin’s life is complicated. If it isn’t the guild demanding of him, then it’s the troublemakers that find their way to him. But the ones that have appeared this time are different somehow, they act like they want something and it isn’t what his store sells. When Garrin finds out what they really want and why, the question becomes why does it sound so good and can he overcome himself to find what he’s been missing.

The work is a slow burn piece of D/s erotica with a bit of a succubus and incubus theme around the edges. It’s very explorative of the main character, Garrin, what his needs are and how the two newcomers into his life Eli and Visha are the missing piece. There’s a lot of self criticism for Garrin which develops into something of a maze he has to find the way out of within himself.

The erotica simmers in a delightful way, slowly drawing the characters together and allowing for them all to explore each other and what feels right to them. Through all of this, the D/s relationship is explored in a way that felt well thought out and offered a means to understand all of the characters well.

As for the incubus and succubus characters, Eli and Visha switch with their monologue about themselves. Sometimes referring to themselves as succubus and incubus, in others as concubi. They are not evil or stereotypical by any means. They are beings of pleasure both for themselves and Garrin and this is where their focus is. Being so, it takes up all of their thoughts and actions and drives them both into some amusing discussions about Garrin, which brought a smile.

At the same time, their natures press upon them, which colours their actions throughout the story. Perhaps a bit oversexed, but they are both strongly written and drive the plot and character development whenever they appear.

Eli and Visha are very interesting and the concept of concubi is unique and offers some deeply erotic paths to explore. While there is an incubus and succubus theme here, it’s secondary to the D/s relationships being formed. As such the story is more of an exploration of that aspect of Garrin than of Eli and Visha.

Three out of five pitchforks.

I’d like to see a follow on work, to find where things fully developed to and how their lives have come together. More so, a deeper exploration of concubi would be fascinating to see. There’s a lot of questions danced around and not taken further than in passing, and so that really should be a story on its own. Perhaps not with these characters to give a fresh perspective and that is something to ponder.
