Plot Summary

Professor Emmanuel Gilbert is an antiquarian, a classics scholar and, honestly, a bit of a bore. Or he was. When the professor finds himself in possession of an ancient mirror with strange magical properties and the dark ritual to awaken the powers within it, the temptation proves too much for his scholarly instincts to pass up. After a ritual mishap, he finds himself transformed and in the thrall of the dark forces within the mirror... but maybe that’s not as bad as it sounds.

Now in the body of a succubus, and striking an unlikely bargain with the ancient prisoner of the mirror, Emma Grant (at least that’s what it says on her new ID) must act to save her friends, her family, and the world from even darker forces, and she’ll have to learn a lot about magic, love, and sex along the way. Read on to see how and whether she’ll manage it in The Adventures of Emmanuelle Gilbert: Beyond the Dark Mirror.

Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on January 10, 2020

Professor Gilbert has created a problem for himself, and it is his own fault. One should not toy with magic and mayhem; they tend to bite bank if one is unwise. Making a deal, Emmanuel finds himself swapped into the form of a succubus and the adventures of Emmanuelle begin.

The work is a rather complex adventure story with several different fetishes and fantasy themes throughout. Besides the gender swapping, more body possession, there is also a bit of an incubus and succubus theme around the edges to add a bit of spice to the events. With that said, it’s not focused on the erotica, there is a lot of world building and character development and transformations as well which are well done and interesting to see unfold.

Xanh, described as something akin to an incubus, is something a bit more than that. A schemer, a plotter as well, there is a need in him to dominate and control which follows throughout the story. It does make him quite unlikable at times however and, overall, he’s very much a thorn in the side of the story until his character develops into something more interesting.

As for Emmanuelle, once she gets to a point where she understands herself, she’s very much a succubus, if more of a seductress and temptress to shift the thoughts of others. She’s interesting, if taking quite some time to deal with her becoming and the events that swirl around her.

Three and a half out of five pitchforks.

A rather unique story overall which kept my interest. It’s not quite a succubus or incubus story, those themes are a bit tangential to the overall plot and adventure. The work ends in a place which makes sense for the main characters and is a delight to see. It would have been nice to see a bit more what came afterwards, but as things are, it is a lovely story.
