Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on April 2, 2024

There are always deals to be made in order to get what one wants. For some, it’s a matter of securing what is theirs. For others it is seeking out what they desire above all. But somewhere along the way one’s soul is risked, the die is cast, and what follows can be either the end, or the beginning.

The work is a series of short erotic vignettes which mix various fantasy creatures and being, drawing them together in what are somewhat dangerous couplings. Alongside comes a bit of political and social intrigue which helps to frame the story and setting and make the decisions made by the main characters and others make sense. The erotica is very much a series of hot flashes which work quite well in making that heat and allow for more story than just being a sex scene which then brings a bit of intrigue as well that I did enjoy.

Nymoria, the succubus of the story, is present in one chapter, but she dominates it, in every sense of the word. She’s a bit stereotypical around the edges, but there’s a good sense of her power, how she uses the desires of others to her advantage. It’s very clear she’s evil, and how she acts and what transpires is a really well done hot flash of succubus domination and control and the dangers of calling for someone you might not be able to control.

But her appearance is very short, much like the other encounters are, and there’s really no time to flesh her character out or create a tangled web beyond the obvious one that comes to be at the end of the passage with her. It’s a shame as she was possibly the most interesting of the minor characters. I found myself wondering if she really disappeared when all was done and if she wasn’t, what might she be planning and plotting is a really interesting thought to consider.

Still, this is an erotic fantasy story with a succubus playing a somewhat minor role in the overall story. That said, Nymoria is very dominant, ever so slightly evil as well, but in a way that is just wonderfully told. It would have been nice for her to be more involved in the story, at least more than she was however. She’s rather fascinating and perhaps she might be a force to be reckoned with in a future story sometime.

Three and a half out of five pitchforks.

Well written, the characters have their own needs and desires which makes what happens work really well. Perhaps a bit more time spent in exploring the relationships and connecting the characters together might have added a bit more depth overall, but it’s still a lovely work of fantasy erotica.
