Plot Summary

Once, Erica was an up-and-coming content creator. Now, after a horrible car accident, she is living a quiet, unassuming existence. Her life is now part of the social media team for one of the largest video game companies, and she has a boyfriend who treats her like a fragile package. Then, the deaths begin. In an industry that grinds out people, one more suicide goes almost unnoticed.

Almost.

For that company now has Gloria. A mesmerizing beauty with a killer attitude and fire in her eyes. A woman whose cruelty is only matched by the stirrings she creates deep in Erica. As death surrounds them, so does the mystery of their connection. A tantalizing contradiction of lust and fear is created as the secrets once well-hidden start to reveal themselves in a horrifying fashion.

Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on March 13, 2022

Erica has been through her own personal hell and finds herself in the midst of something worse. There’s a problem with her new role, there’s an issue with her coworkers, and when they start to disappear, Erica will come to face her own demons.

The work is overwhelmingly a horror story with little dashes of seduction around the edges. The horror is well done, to be clear, and it works overall for the story and the evil that resides within the work. The characters are well told, the story has some good moments, and some flaws as well. As a work of horror, it has some promise, but as for being a succubus story, there’s something left to be desired.

Gloria, who is something between a devil and a succubus, tending more towards the devil side of things, is from the beginning an attraction to others, but is more so a force of destruction than anything else. Yes she has her temptations, but the story really doesn’t dwell on that, the focus is on her evil, her actions of destruction and what comes from that. It’s somewhat stereotypical in her speech, actions and viewpoint, which makes many of the events she brings to pass be somewhat telegraphed.

Overall the work is just slightly a succubus story. It’s clearly more involved with the horror genre, which overall works well. It’s a shame as Gloria might have been more striking a character if there was more suggestions of what horrors happen to others and a deeper exploration of her nature and what she desires.

Three and a half out of five pitchforks.

The ending is somewhat disappointing, it’s abrupt, leaves a lot of paths open and seems a bit unsatisfying. I’ve never really enjoyed horror stories, but this is one of a very few that was intriguing enough to hold my attention to the end. Even if the ending didn’t work well for me.
