Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on April 16, 2023

There are a handful of forces in the universe that cannot be resisted. For the angel Gabriel and the demoness Lilith, that force is newfound love. But their worlds cannot accept such a thing and so begins their fight to love and be loved regardless of the cost or the forces stacked against them.

The work is a well told narrative of the entwinement of the angel Gabriel and the demoness Lilith which follows them through discovery, attraction, newfound love and eternal love which follows. It Is not a simple path for them, both the angels and the demons do everything to wreck their love. It’s very much an odyssey for them, they must battle each step of the way and it’s wonderfully told.

But among the moments of fear and terror and battles, there are moments of joy and discovery which tell of a loving and passionate relationship that was a delight. This isn’t a work of erotica by any means however, nor is this work written in a way that most novels would be.

The story is something of a reflection of the past told through the eyes of the narrator and as such there’s no dialogue to be found. Through the narrative the emotions of the moments of joy and the depths of darkness came through quite well.

Within this work, Lilith is never seen as being evil or otherwise what she is expected to be. She is an inspiring aspect of her mythos both in her strength and her love of Gabriel. The work speaks well of her, the passion she brings to the story and the certainty of her belief in the love she has found and has given in return.

I thought the story of Gabriel and Lilith was wonderfully told and if there’s one thing missing for me, it would be their having children wasn’t part of the tale. Given the way the story closes, that would had given another aspect of Lilith a way to become a wonder of its own for her.

Four and a half out of five pitchforks.

Beyond that point, the overall story feels very much like it could be used as a template for a longer and deeper told work. Perhaps that will appear sometime, whether it does or not, the themes in this work are so very dear to my thoughts about certain beliefs and offered something wonderful to consider.
