Book Review
The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on June 22, 2021
Taylor woke up this morning with a problem and she can’t shake it no matter what she tries. Her mother isn’t much help and when she meets her best friend Heather they are both in for a surprise that will change everything about Taylor and what she knows about herself.
The story reads in a slightly odd coming of age way with a lot of erotic thoughts passing through Taylor’s mind as things progress. Taylor is interesting, though her being constantly overwhelmed by her erotic thoughts seems to derail the progress of the story a lot. There are points where, for example, her mother seems to be wanting to say something, but the point doesn’t move forward. That isn’t a surprise of course, the plot demands it, but it will come back to haunt them in time. If that’s done well, and if the author uses it to fall back into Taylor and her mother’s past that could be really something unique.
Taylor seems to be a futa succubus, her transformation clearly says she is, and that’s the part of this that I’d have liked to see more of. It’s a bit short and abrupt, the moment getting drowned in the erotica. But it suggests a lot of really hard questions about Taylor and her friend Heather. Again, getting those questions answered and not having the following parts of the series push that aside for the sex would be good to see. The transformation is well told, the changes make sense in the context of the story. I would just have liked to see something more than the short moment it is.
There isn’t much in the way of heat in the erotica, though there is a bit of a D/s moment that I thought worked well and hinted a lot for the series as a whole. Really that’s the main thing in this work, it’s hints and teases about what’s next. There’s promise here and I’d like to see that come to the fore.
Three out of five pitchforks.
It’s a bit lost around the edges of the story, but in being so that allows for the mystery around Taylor to come into its own. I’m going to hope for more depth in what happened in the past and that there’s more to Taylor than just what she’s succumbing to. She being a stereotypical succubus would be disappointing. Still, the beginning shows some promise and I’ll be looking for that to continue going forward.
