Book Review
The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on December 29, 2024
The world may be on the edge of destruction, the demons having overrun all. But Ali has one goal, to avenge her love Kael no matter the cost. It’s when she discovers he is alive, and is forced to make a choice to save him, that all will learn that love can conquer all.
The work is a very short fantasy adventure with a bit of erotica mixed around the edges to push the story towards the climax. Focused on the main character Ali, the appearance of succubi and a demon who could be called an incubus, but that’s not exactly clear, is used to bring a sense of danger to the story and drive Ali into a situation where she makes a choice for the sake of her love.
As such, the succubi are minor characters who are generally stereotypically evil overall. That’s about the same way to describe the other demon and demoness that appears as well. They aren’t really fleshed out fully, and that’s a bit disappointing. They aren’t meant to be much more than they are, and that’s understandable in the tone and setting of the story.
It’s a shame the story was so short, that the time leading to the events of the story was glossed over. I wonder about that quite a lot, what happened before, how things came to be in the story. More so, the question of why everything happened as it did was left unresolved.
Three and a half out of five pitchforks.
It’s more the shame this work is no longer available as it’s really something special. It feels like the middle of a novel somehow, the beginning and ending left as thoughts to be wondered about. If the author ever reads this, the idea is wonderful, perhaps you should think about revisiting and telling the story behind the story.
