Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on November 17, 2024

Anthony has a dream, to become a writer, to tell stories that captivate. To have his readers captured in the story and discover the secrets awaiting. A story overheard leads him to a hotel with a mystery to explore. Perhaps it will rekindle his writing, perhaps he will discover something about the mystery. Perhaps, he will be drawn into it all and discover what’s been missing for always.

The work is a very short hot flash of erotica which revolves around a bit of an incubus mystery theme. The story is lovingly told, the characters are fully realized. The mystery teases and tempts in the most wonderful way too. The story doesn’t rush to the climax, it tugs at the main character Anthony throughout which allows the story to simmer towards the revelations waiting.

Arthur, the other main character, can be thought of as a kind of incubus, but not in an evil or dark sort of way. He’s more of a pleasure, a whisper of heat that wraps around Anthony. It’s actually a but unfair to call him an incubus when the mystery is revealed as well. Still, he is something of a creature of sex and desire, which plays on him being an incubus.

It’s after the characters meet, that their passions are joined, and the connection is made, that the story moves from a mystery towards a romance. It’s very much a roller coaster of emotions by the end of the story, but in that comes something that is just, in every way, perfect for the story and the characters themselves.

It’s really very unclear if Arthur is, was, might have been an incubus. That said, the story is wonderfully told, the passion between the characters is wonderful. There’s a really interesting story universe hinted at around the hotel, perhaps the author will eventually explore that more fully. I’d hope so because there’s just enough mystery wrapped up in what is revealed that creating a larger story, or series, really seems like a good idea.

Four out of five pitchforks.

Given where the story ends. and it’s as perfect as I’d hoped from the hints set before, it’s hard to say if there’s a story to continue onwards for Tony and Arthur. The hotel is as much a character in the story as they are, and really that’s what needs to be told further somehow. It’s a fascinating concept for a story universe and it really shouldn’t end here.
