The Queen of Underground had some big plans of destruction, and Shane was her weapon now. Faced with a Catch-22, Shane had to decide between greed and his freedom.
Book Review
The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on February 25, 2020
Shane sees himself to be a wheeler and dealer, Las Vegas being a place to battle the odds and survive to see another day. But Lilith has other ideas and makes him an offer he really can’t refuse. The problem is that he should have and by the time he realizes it, Lilith may have everything she ever wanted and more.
The story is something of a mystery mixed with a bit of self-damnation, myths and legends, and a bit of a heist story as well. It’s a little complicated here and there, some of the moments at the beginning of the story feel odd and left the main character looking a bit poorly which carried through parts of the story as well later on. Given all that, there is an undercurrent of evil, brought by Lilith, which creeps in slowly and eventually, when her plans are fully revealed, it’s quite a telling thing.
Lilith herself is more a focus of evil than being a succubus overall. She’s temptation, a deal maker, but beyond that, she’s somehow missing something overall. It’s a shame that Lilith was as two-dimensional as she was.
She is a seductress, but also so stereotypically evil when the time came and that was a bit disappointing. I would have liked to see her more of a schemer and manipulator than she was given the time to be. I would have also liked to see her being a bit more succubus like as well honestly.
Three out of five pitchforks.
The work could use an editing pass on the dialogue, it’s a bit clunky here and there. Similarly some of the narrative felt rushed to get to the conflict and climax too. It is interesting as a story of being careful what you desire, but the ending was a bit expected and a little bit disappointing when all else had been settled.
