Plot Summary

When Rick heard it was fifty gold for sex with a succubus, he thought it meant he was the one getting paid. She wants her money, but Rick is stubborn and won’t part with his coin. They decide to settle the matter with a duel in the town square, but Rick soon finds out that the heat of battle doesn’t burn as hot as the heat of lust…and all he can do is watch.

Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on February 17, 2023

Rick might not be the smartest of adventurers, or he might be smarter than he reveals himself to be. Still, trying to take advantage of a succubus because of a slight misunderstanding isn’t the brightest thing to do. But it could pay off in the end, if he’s very lucky.

The work is mainly a story of humour that tells of a fantasy adventure and the slapstick mistakes that happen to the main character and what comes from that. There’s a very strong feeling that this could be a D&D encounter at times and in others it’s more Monty Python than anything else from the tone, characters and events that unfold.

There’s really not that much in the way of erotica, what there is has some heat, but it’s rushed through to get to the next part of the story and drop the next tease or silliness to appear. As such this really isn’t a work of erotica, what little there appears is used to get to the next thing that Rick makes a fool of himself with and that happens often.

The succubus of the work, who is never named and is described rather fleetingly, has the typical hooves and look of a succubus, but she’s not a bimbo by any means, which I particularly liked. Overall, she seems to be the smartest of everyone in the story, but that still didn’t save her from Rick’s slight misunderstanding of her offer. Regardless, she’s something more than “just a succubus” and I’d have liked her to have a name for the sake of Rick knowing who, exactly, came out the winner at the end of the mess he found himself in.

Humorous at points, the story started quickly, told just enough to know who was in the story and then ran headlong into the succubus and the mess that resulted. That might be the real problem here in that the story moved so quickly that the humour got lost in the speed and at points going back and rereading a passage brought out the sneaky bits of silliness.

Three and a half out of five pitchforks.

The succubus really needed a name and the story really is a bit too short. It felt rushed, which was part of the action that happened, and that makes sense, but I’d have liked a bit more than what appeared. Delightfully funny, the characters are a lot of fun and it’s really silly overall which I liked. I just really would have liked more story leading up to the encounter with the succubus and perhaps a bit more about what happened after the succubus got what she wanted in more ways than one.
