Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on May 4, 2025

It’s just a Oujia board, it’s a joke and nothing will happed. At least that’s what Cristian thinks right until the point where things turn dark and his taunts come true. Summoning a succubus is never wise, they are not to be trifled with and Eisheth is not one to take what she needs.

The work is a very short hot flash with a focus on succubi and the supernatural that leads into an erotic encounter and its aftermath. A bare handful of pages, there’s really little character development, the story rushes from beginning to end pausing only long enough for Eisheth to have her way with the main character and then coming to a close.

There is very little told about Eisheth, the succubus of the work, she doesn’t speak, there’s no real tale about her. She’s a means for the horror at the end of the work to appear and even that is rushed past with little in the way of detail. Similarly, the erotic scene with Eisheth really doesn’t have a lot of heat, there’s barely any succubus aspects to her, save for the story demanding that she be one.

The writing is very flat, the passions and heat don’t come out as they should. While there are tensions to be found, it’s all far too short and far too lacking in adding depth. Each chapter reads more like a summary of something more involved and that’s the real shame here.

Two and a half out of five pitchforks.

There really isn’t a lot done with this story idea and that’s a real shame. Given the number of characters in the work and how they are linked, there’s no reason that there couldn’t have been more story to tell and make this a better work overall. An interesting idea not taken and expressed fully is disappointing and this work very much is.
