Book Review
The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on June 16, 2023
For Saraya, life as a succubus simply sucks. She’s not beautiful like the others, her self-worth doesn’t exist. What’s worse is that no one believes she is a succubus and without drawing another soul to her, she’ll never be what she wants to be. But the arrival of the elf Zestari comes with a deal and it’s one that she can’t resist, no matter the cost.
The work is a very short fantasy adventure story with a bit of succubus theming attached to a vore story. While there are erotic moments tied to the vore scene, the focus holds mainly on Saraya;a internal monologue, the events that transpire, and what Zestari’s deal creates by the end of the story.
Saraya really doesn’t quite make herself out to be stereotypically evil. She’s mainly a lost soul in conflict with herself and dealing with the situation she was born into. It’s her personality, the struggle with herself through the story that captured my thoughts and made me wonder about her. The interactions with Zestari especially bring her frustrations to the fore and create future possibilities for both characters.
The erotica has its moments, I don’t particularly care for vore themes, but in this case it’s somewhat toned down for the sake of the story and the characters. There’s purpose to what happens, the meaning of which appears at the conclusion of the story, and it makes a lot of sense which I appreciated.
While there are some really interesting succubus aspects teased at, this is mainly an unbirth/vore story. That said, the way the story is written and how the characters interact is something quite different and I liked that aspect.
Three and a half out of five pitchforks.
Where the story concludes leaves a lot of story that could be told and that would be interesting to see. Saraya, with Zestari’s powers mixed in is just delightful in the possibilities that might be explored. There might even be a twist in the tale as well and it’s in the what if’s which are left open which leave me musing and I do hope the author continues this work onwards to see what happens to both Saraya and Zestari.
