Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on September 6, 2022

Simon wasn’t expecting anything special to happen, his life continuing on as it had always done. But an intrusion into his world results in finding that he is now a succubus and Selena is lost and confused. But there’s something attractive nearby and in discovering what that is she might have found all she needs.

The work is mainly a futa story with a gender/succubus transformation for the main character which drives the story onwards. It’s bit complicated, both in the events and the emotional aspects of what Selena must deal with.

While Selena is a succubus, having the physical form of one, she really doesn’t have the opportunity to fully realize her new form beyond the need she feels. That need drives her, and the story onwards which has some moments of universe bulling that offered some hints about things, but really didn’t explore them much.

The erotica has some heat, but feels a bit disconnected from the motional aspects of the characters. It makes up much of the story and does give rise to an interesting relationship to be created.

While Selena is told something of what happened to her and why things are, it’s a fleeting explanation as a whole. As in many fo this author’s works there’s a hint about the larger story setting, but it’s not explored for the sake of remaining in the main story. The larger universe really interests me, but knowing the name isn’t the same as knowing something more about it.

I honestly didn’t enjoy the shift the story took in the ending. It’s more sad than hopeful, even if the way things ended was in the best way possible. Perhaps it’s the feeling that there was something else going on that wasn’t explored. Maybe it’s just the oddity in what the main character’s life came to. Certainly there’s a missing part of the story and it’s something of a shame.

Three out of five pitchforks.

Given the story as a whole, and the relationship that Simon had with his girlfriend, the twist in the end with regards to her just felt a bit too matter of fact and took a lot emotionally out of the story. It is a happy ending in a way, but it’s also so very sad for what’s lost. I wonder if there couldn’t have been a better ending in some way than there was.
