There are plans within plans, some never ending and for Carl, the reality is that who he is, and who his wife Jessica really is, reveals everything. Heaven and Hell have their plans for both, but they do not expect what they have unleashed in Carl and what may happen to them all.
The work follows on from the prior story, and while there is a very long and convoluted orgy that takes up the majority of what happens, it’s more window dressing. After so long, the series finally reveals who Carl and Jessica really are and in doing is there’s a mythos constructed that really needed to be seen sooner.
That mythos tells a lot about the universe this work is set in, the pasts of Jessica and Carl, the history of succubi in this universe as well. It’s very complex, but so very fascinating to see how the pieces of the puzzle come together.
It’s in the scenes with Jessica facing the one that put all of the parts and pieces together that she’s really herself. It’s also when the mythos of the succubi comes out. They aren’t, as I’d expected, evil, and far from that, which works really well again in fleshing out the series. There’s also, finally, the return of Jessica’s dominant side, which with who she is, makes a lot of sense.
Where things are still a bit unclear is the point of her being the last of the succubi. Still, with her being Lilith, and the first, and also being Jessica, and the last, there’s a feeling of closure which hopefully leads to something more when the last work of the series tells its story.
Two and a half out of five pitchforks.
It’s taken this long for the series to finally get to the mythos around Jessica and honestly that’s a real shame. The story behind her, who she is and who Carl is, would make a very interesting story on its own. The next work in the series will be the close, I hope that it’s something like this work was and actually does something more with the characters than just them having sex.
