Following immediately from the prior work, this part of the series mixes action and fantasy for the first third of the work to bring the series to its climax. Once past a very quickly told battle and resolution to things, the story falls back into a series of tepid sex scenes in which both the dialogue and action are so very familiar. It reads very rote in a lot of ways and being so that’s so dearly disappointing.

That said, Jessica’s arc through this part of the series, and that of Carl as well, at the beginning, tells a lot about them both, who they are and why things have turned out as they have. It really was interesting to see that aspect of both characters and honestly that’s something I have wanted to see for a very long time. The mythos around Jessica in particular, and succubi as a whole, I wanted to know more about from the moment she was described as the last succubus.

The problem here is that all of that story, all of the character development, gets compressed into a handful of pages when it could have been explored more throughout the series. It’s little flashes of story, small glimpses of something really interesting, but they get pushed aside for the action around the characters and then forgotten about when the sex orgies return.

It all brings back the point that the series is a harem creation story and not really one about a succubus. She’s part of the series, she’s there as things happen. But given how the series comes to a focus here, it would have been far more interesting for Jessica’s true self, as Lilith, to be more central to the story. If nothing else, it would have given more story than sex overall and that would have been a lot more interesting.

Two out of five pitchforks.

It’s really so very disappointing that Carl and Jessica’s true selves are so quickly passed over to get back to the sex. What otherwise would have been so dearly an interesting story to tell gets glossed over and it shouldn’t have been.

Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on September 24, 2024

Jessica is at the mercy of the one that has been tormenting her kind from the beginning and only Carl and the harem can save her. But it will be a battle for them all to overcome.
