The work is a romantic fantasy with a cute and humorous side that’s a lot of fun overall and the world building is very interesting. There are moments of erotica here and there, but they don’t drive the story so much as the three main characters coming to terms with each other and the world they are building for themselves. A bit rushed in places as a result, some of the dialogue seems to be missing something in its tone or what is trying to be said.

Similarly, in getting to the point of Portia summoning the two, their world is a bit skimmed over, which is a shame. There are hints of a lot of interesting things to explore that weren’t and it would have added a lot to see how that part of the story pressed on Bragg and the choices he made. It’s just a bit too glossed over and lacking reasoning, which I would have liked to see.

Rewd, the male succubus of the work, has a very unique character and view of things that I thought worked quite well. He’s not stereotypical, and while some of his aspects as a succubus appear, there’s a lot left unsaid and unexplored. Much of that is because of the story’s purpose and where it takes the characters of course. But at the same time, it’s the missing parts of him that leave me wondering about him and trying to understand him better than can really be done.

The ending is rather disappointing compared to the story and the hint of what is missing. There’s conflict for Portia, Bragg and Rewd which is glossed over in how they managed to stay on Earth in spite of all else. That’s a shame because that would have been a series in itself, but more so, develop the characters more than they are.

Four out of five pitchforks.

I’d like to see more about the characters, to flesh them out more and explore who they are and where they came from. There are questions about where Bragg and Rewd came from, how that world works which really need to be explored somehow. The happily ever after ending is lovely and delightful, but I just wanted more in the way of why things turned out as they did.

Plot Summary

Just one teeny summoning spell…what could go wrong?

Portia I've got good news and bad news. The good news is, a vision told me I’d have a date for this year’s Halloween party. The bad news is, it’s October 31 already, and the mysterious would-be-date has yet to show his stupid face.

Frankly, I'm tired of waiting for an unknown Mr. Right to show up for one measly date. So, I’m taking matters into my own hands and conjuring myself a date with a succubus-for-hire. Just one quick, harmless contract with a demon escort is all I need. And all he has to do is stand next to me, match my costume, and make me feel pretty and desired. The powers-that-be won’t notice such a minor dabbling in forbidden magic on Halloween, of all nights. And if they do? My demon date will have slithered on back to hell before anyone notices what I’ve done. No muss, no fuss.

Bragg When the pretty little clairvoyant witch summons me from my cramped corner of hell, I’m ready to party. Halloween sounds like the perfect time and place to carry out some mayhem — as long as Portia doesn’t mind my addendum to her contract. You see, I had to bring along my buddy Rewd for some much-needed affection. How could a witch argue with two demons for the price of one?

Rewd I know a couple of things about myself: I don’t like witches. I don’t like parties. And I don’t like traveling between dimensions. But I do like the demon Bragg, so I’ll tag along with whatever he’s got planned. However, one simple portal jump to a little witch's attic has me rethinking everything I know. All it takes is one look at Portia to open me up to a multitude of possibilities. The three of us are meant to be together. And I don’t need a psychic to tell me that.

Portia thought this Halloween would be exactly what she thought it would be. But with bare hours to go, there’s no date and all her plans are going up in smoke. But a bit of magic couldn’t make things any worse, right? When Bragg and Rewd are released from their prison to give Portia everything she wants this night, they soon discover that there’s more to the lovely witch than they expected, and they don’t want to say goodbye when the night is done.
