Plot Summary

Book Review

The time of the succubus has arrived. Desiree is falling to the temptations of the succubus and the future looks bleak. But her husband is willing to do anything and within the succubus there might be a spark to bring their passions and love into a wildfire.
This, the last work in the series, follows on from the prior work and immediately turns towards Desiree trying to be with her husband and they working against the powers of the succubus within her. It’s a really interesting mental battle which mixes well with the erotic scenes that make up the majority of this work. Overall there’s more passion between them and the struggles they both face are very telling.
Where the story becomes a lot more interesting is when the succubus fully takes over and the reveals come about her, about the history of the succubi, and what they want. It adds a lot of layers that I feel were missing and gave an edge to what happens. The powers of the succubus are fully seen, she’s a force unequaled, revealing the extent of her mind control over others.
That does bring with it an orgy, there are scenes between Desiree and her husband, and for that matter the succubus trying to corrupt Desiree. While for the most part the erotica has a bit more heat than the rest of the series has had, it’s missing something beyond the sex. It feels like the story’s in a rush to get to the climax. That’s a problem as there’s a lot of plot and character development that’s set aside and it really shouldn’t have been.
Setting aside the sex scenes, the oddities of the story and the rather large plot holes left behind, this honestly closed out the series better than I expected. The mythos of the succubus was revealed, the main characters resolved most of what happened and there’s a nice happy ever after ending that I appreciated.
That said, it would have been nice to explore the succubus more, who she is as well. It’s a bit skimmed over and expanding that, or at least making the succubus gloat or recall in her mind about herself would have added a lot. It’s also a bit rushed outside of the erotic scenes which felt like a lot of story was left behind.
Really that’s the single issue I have with the series overall. Desiree is very much a succubus in mind and power at the end of the story, but it’s not really explored. Perhaps more transformational aspects would have added something, the idea of her having horns and a tail still amuses me. She’s very much a power to be reckoned with here and it would have been interesting to see her in the succubus’ seat of power, casting her control over all and then the final battle coming.
Three and a half out of five pitchforks.
I suppose it’s a lot of what-if’s not taken in the series that brigs me pause. Adding a few more pages to develop the characters here and there would have made this a lot better than it turned out to be.
