Plot Summary
Some rooms you check into… and never leave the same.
Salem, a hardened hunter of the supernatural, has seen more than her share of cursed places and dangerous creatures. After a brutal hunt, she stops off for rest and recovery, but fate has other plans. Rumors lead her to the Cosmic Rest Motor Lodge, a roadside motel with a dark reputation and one room no guest leaves unchanged.

What begins as a night of sleep quickly spirals into a surreal battle of will and desire, as Salem confronts a powerful force from beyond the veil, one that doesn’t play by the rules of the waking world. But Salem didn’t earn her reputation by running from a challenge.

There is a hotel where those that visit, never really do. There is a part of them left behind, held by a darkness within a room The room has a reputation, but then Salem has one too.
The work is a mixture of adventure and dark fantasy set in a somewhat modern tone. It’s very atmospheric, the story being told from the main characters perspective throughout. It is dark, dearly so, but there is a glimmer of light that comes from the main character which presses against that.
The erotica is focused on the main character being futa, and it is a little over the top here and there, a little forceful from time to time. But with that said, it also makes sense and doesn’t feel like it is a part of the story for the sake of being so. There’s a point to things and over time that turns the story towards the climax and ending that felt somehow right.
Salem, the succubus of the work, isn’t fully a succubus, though she is very much a futa. She has a certain tone of voice, a way of presenting herself and her thoughts that are different and quite unique really. Her futa aspects drive the erotica, but in that comes something which reflects on her nature and what drives her to confront the evil she does. She’s anything but stereotypical, more a dark angel of vengeance in a way and that I thought was interesting.

As well written as the first work in the series, the story is engrossing and Salem remains so very interesting. It’s a bit different from the first work in a lot of ways, but there’s a tone with Salem herself that felt more open and revealing that worked well. Hopefully that will continue.
