Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on April 25, 2023

Crossing the barrier between worlds, Mahalia has one purpose in mind. To gain power she needs to create more futa succubi like herself on Earth. Briana will discover that her own wants and needs become very different after Mahalia has cursed her. Or is it a gift?

The work is very short and mainly revolves around a telling of Mahalia, the succubus of the work, arriving, musing about where she came from and what she desires before she goes on the hunt. Soon after she encounters Briana, captures her and begins transforming her into a futa succubus as well.

The story reads very much like the retelling of a roleplaying game in many respects, both in dialogue and in the narrative. As such it reads a bit oddly, rushing through events, and focusing on the encounter for the most part. There’s really no erotic scenes to be found, though some of Mahalia’s actions were delightful in being seductive.

Mahalia herself is interesting, most of that coming from the passage at the beginning that tells about where she comes from, what she desires, and what her ultimate goal might be. She doesn’t seem stereotypically evil, though there is clearly evil intent with her actions and what she does with Briana.

Briana’s transformation is mainly done off the page, at least in this part of the series so far. Given that the series seems to want to focus on that aspect, there could have been more time and space given to telling of the transformation, of Mahalia’s delight in that or Briana’s reaction to it.

Overall, there’s just a lot of points where more story could have been told, more erotic passages written. There’s a lot of detail about what the characters look like and what they are wearing, but that’s icing on the story. There really needs to be another editing to slow the story down, tell more about the worlds involved, and give some depth beyond the tease there is.

Two and a half out of five pitchforks.

The work could use a serious editing for how oddly it reads. It also might help to expand on the story and characters more than was. It’s what I call a pamphlet, which is the real shame here. With more effort put into the story I think this could have been a lot better. We’ll see what the next work in the series brings.
