Lost Girl is a Canadian developed and produced television series which premiered in the 2010 season on the television channel Showcase.

It's a Fae, Fae, Fae, Fae World was the premiere episode of the Canadian television series Lost Girl. It was first shown on the Showcase Television Channel in Canada on September 12th, 2010 at 9 PM Eastern time. According to a news release from CanWest Global, the owners of the Showcase Channel, the episode was the highest-rated Canadian scripted series premiere of all time on the channel, beating out the previous record holder Haven, a Showcase – Syfy Channel co-production, which had run in July of that year. According to the press release, the episode was watched by 400,000 viewers in its initial airing and then the immediate repeat also garnered 184,000 viewers later that evening.

Plot

Short Summary

The first episode of the series Lost Girl, introduces us to the main characters Bo, Dyson, Kenzi, and a group of individuals they will be involved with called The Fae. Bo finds out a little bit about what she is during the episode, that being she is a Succubus, but very little about what that means from a human doctor working for The Fae. She undergoes a test, which she passes with the help of Dyson and Kenzi, and is told to make a choice of either joining the Light or the Dark Fae. She refuses both choices, sides with humanity, and is then returned by The Fae to the city she lives in, attempting to continue to survive, but with some rules placed upon her by The Fae who watch from the shadows.

Detailed Summary

The episode opens with the lead character of the series Bo Jones (played by Anna Silk), working in a bar and talking to a customer who attempts to get her to go out with her. She refuses and continues working. Moments later, another of the main characters, Kenzi (Ksenia Solo), appears, meets up with the same customer and then leaves with them for a room elsewhere. Bo follows, meeting the pair in an elevator. She uses her powers to control the man as Kenzi falls to the floor, the victim of a date drug. Bo then uses her powers on the man, killing him and showing us what it looks like when a Succubus feeds in this series. Bo then grabs Kenzi and leaves leaving the corpse of her victim behind.

We then meet another two main characters of the story, detectives Dyson (Kristen Holden-Reid) and Hale (K.C Collins). They investigate the scene, talk to the bartender where the man was last seen (Richard Howland as Trick), deduce that the man was the victim of a Fae, and go after Bo. Meanwhile, Bo and Kenzi have a meal together, Bo deletes the video that Kenzi took of her feeding, and then the pair leave. Moments after, Dyson and Hale appear, knock the two of them out, and leave taking Bo with them.

Bo awakens to find herself tied up and at the mercies of a group called The Fae. Two of their leaders attempt to get information from her, these being the leader of the Light Fae, (Clé Bennett as The Ash) and the Dark Fae, (led by Emmanuelle Vaugier as The Morrigan). Getting nowhere with that, they allow Bo to be taken to a laboratory to be examined to discover what she is. In the lab, we meet the human doctor of the series who is studying Fae named Lauren (Zoie Palmer). She examines Bo and comes to the conclusion that she is a Succubus. Bo seems to be aware of that term, and gains a small amount of information from Lauren before she uses her powers on the doctor and attempts to escape. She fails as Dyson is waiting outside and then takes her to a glass factory in the city to undergo a test.

Meanwhile, Kenzi is attempting to locate the people that took Bo and using her contacts finds out where Bo is being taken and goes there. Meanwhile, the test, Bo is told, is to defeat two beings called half-Faes in battle. Before that happens, Dyson, for reasons we are not told, allows Bo to feed on him. He does however stop her before she takes too much from him. The first battle is a physical one, which Bo wins easily. The second battle is a mental one in which Bo is told that she is worthless and should kill herself. She almost falls in that battle, but breaks free at Kenzi's arrival in the glass factory. Bo is declared the winner of the test and told to choose a side of the Fae. Either the Light or the Dark. She refuses and sides with humanity instead to the shock of the assembled Fae.

The Ash and the Morrigan discuss killing Bo immediately, but are persuaded not to by Trick and decide to learn why Bo is not one of the Fae already and is unmarked as one. In the end of the episode, Dyson returns Bo and Kenzi back to the alley were he and Hale had captured Bo. Giving Bo his business card, he wishes her luck and drives off. Bo and Kenzi walk off mulling over the events of the episode and wondering who among them are also Fae.

Questions in this Episode

• Bo seems to feed differently from Humans and from Fae. Is that a mistake in the episode or correct? We saw the energy leaving her victim in the elevator, but not as much when she fed from Dyson.
• Does Bo have horns and a tail like the classical Succubi do? We see no evidence of a tail in the scene with the Doctor, but nothing has confirmed that she has horns or not.
• We have seen evidence of Succubi, Werewolves, Vampires, and several other mythical beings. What caused them all to be created? Is it genetics or something else?
• According to one ID Bo is shown carrying, her name is Bo Jones. Is that her real name or just a false name?
• We are told that Fae are hidden in human society, and the question is raised, how do you tell? Well, how do you?
• Mention is made of tribal marks on the skin of The Fae. What does that look like?
• Discussion is made over the possibility of killing Bo at the end of the episode. So, that assumes that Fae can be killed. Seeing that they all seem to be reflections of the myths they are based on, does that mean their weaknesses are the same?
• What is the hierarchy of the Fae? Who are the leadership? What are they? Why are they the leaders?
• We see what are called half-Faes. Where do they live? What controls them from causing mass havoc in the city?
• If a Fae breaks the tribal rules, what happens?
• We know of one human being that is aware of Fae, that being the Doctor. Why is she involved? How does she remain quiet about it? Why is she trusted by The Fae to keep their secrets and learn about them?
